James Willis Roundy was born January 28, 2008 at 8:30 am.
Exactly three weeks early via c-section at Utah Valley Medical Center in Provo, Ut. He weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz. and was 17 inches long.
Before I tell you about his birth I think I need to tell you about the week previous. Monday Jan 21 we went to my 36 week check-up and found out that I was 1cm and he was frank breech and 3 weeks ahead in growth, so instead of measuring 36 weeks he was measuring 39 weeks. We were thinking of trying to move him around but upon researchng found it to be risky and only had a 50% chance of working, so we were going to set a c-section date the next week and hope he would turn himself before his due date Feb 17th.
I was still working full time as a nurse on the med-surgical floor and had worked Tues, Wed, and Thurs. I had been having Braxton-Hicks contraction for the last few months and would get them mostly when I worked. Tues and Wed were not the exception but Thurs. I started having contractions that were different than before but I went home Friday morning took a nice hot bath and went to sleep for the day and the contractions subsided.
Friday night we went to a car show with Cloyd's sister and brother. Saturday I went to lunch with my girlfriends from college and felt as good as a 8 1/2 month pregnant lady could fell.
On Sunday I woke up with back pain. We went to church and I could barely make it through sacrament my back was killing me. I then started having contractions again, I thought they were braxton-hicks. I went home and took a nap to try to get them to stop-it didn't. Cloyd's sister and husband came over for dinner and then I layed on the couch and watched a movie. I really wanted to be sure I was in labor before I went to the hospital (I still had 3 weeks left). During the movie I kept track of the contractions and they were 5 minutes apart by the end of the movie. I actually got ready for bed and decided I should probably go to the hospital.
When we went to the hospital the nurse checked me and found that I was about 2 cm and the contractions were 5 min apart. They kept me for a hour to see if I had any more movement and when I didn't they gave me pain meds for the pain and sent me home with instructions about coming back.
I went home and was able to fall asleep quickly (thanks to the Percocet). I woke up once with very bad pain but went right to sleep. At about 5:45 I woke up with intense pain and urge to void, when I got in the bathroom I felt my water break. The contractions were 2-4 min apart and increasing becoming worse, I was scared. I called out for Cloyd and we rushed back to the hospital.
When I got to the hospital they quickly hooked me up to the machines and check baby to see if he had turned or not-nope. At first they had scheduled the c-section for 9 am after a scheduled c-section at 8am. Those plans were quickly thwarted as the contractions got more intense and closer together. This baby was going to come c-section or not and soon. So they bumped me up to 8 am.
To prep me for the c-section they had to get an IV in me and start the epidural. Because I was so dehydrated it took 2 nurses to try and finally the anesthesiologist (after his 4th try) was able to find one. With epidural in I was ready to go.
I was in the OR at 8am and James was born at 8:30 and I was back in recovery by 9am. Not bad for an hour time.
Cloyd was amazing and extremely supportive. He wasn't so sure about being in the room when James was born but he did it. At first he was fine but as soon as they started cutting me he got a little light headed and had to lie on the floor for the last bit but was feeling better by the time James came out and was able to hold him and follow him to get all cleaned up. He was very glad to have been there.
We are soo happy to have this little bundle of joy in our lives. He is soo cute and full of life.
